Windows in Winnipeg: Replacement and Installation
Norden Seal supplies and installs triple-pane, ENERGY STAR certified windows across Winnipeg, a city with 113 days a year when the temperature never rises above freezing, more than any other major Canadian city. Every unit carries a 25-year non-prorated, transferable warranty.

Manitoba is the most generous of the three provinces Norden Seal serves, and the two main programmes stack.
Efficiency Manitoba Windows and Doors Rebate
$100 per window or door, to a maximum of $2,000 per household. The product must be ENERGY STAR certified with at least triple-pane glass and carry an NRCan reference number in the format NR####-######-ES#. Primary residence only, replacing an existing unit between a heated and an unheated space. Garages, sunrooms and new openings are not eligible. Your application must be submitted within 90 days of installation and payment in full.
That 90-day window is where most homeowners lose the money. Norden Seal provides the NRCan reference numbers and invoice documentation at the time of installation, so you are not chasing paperwork on day 85.
Manitoba Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan
Windows and doors qualify for up to $7,500 on a five-year term at 6.20% annually (O.A.C.), with no down payment. Manitoba Hydro pays the contractor directly and the payments appear on your energy bill.
What is no longer available
The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan is closed. Natural Resources Canada states its funding is fully committed and new applications cannot be approved.
Ten qualifying triple-pane windows earn $1,000 back from Efficiency Manitoba, and up to $7,500 of the remaining cost can go on a Manitoba Hydro loan. Confirm current terms with both before signing. More on financing options.

What Winnipeg’s climate actually does to a window
Winnipeg endures 113 days a year that never climb above freezing, the most of any major Canadian city, on Environment Canada’s climate normals. But the failure mode here is not the cold itself. It is the temperature gradient across the glass.
At minus 35°C outside and 21°C inside, a window is holding back a 56-degree difference across a few centimetres. On a double-pane unit with an aluminum spacer, the coldest surface in the whole assembly is the strip of glass right at the edge where that metal bridges inside to outside. Indoor humidity condenses there first, then freezes, then melts down onto the sill during the next warm stretch. Homeowners describe it as a leak. It is not a leak. It is a thermal bridge, and no amount of caulking fixes it.
The specification that solves it: triple-pane glazing with two low-emissivity coatings, a warm-edge Super Spacer in place of aluminum, argon fill between the panes, and multi-chambered uPVC frames with fusion-welded corners.
The Winnipeg problem nobody mentions in a quote
Large parts of Winnipeg sit on Red River clay. Geotechnical surveys name the Red River Valley, the Lake Agassiz basin and the City of Winnipeg among the most concentrated expansive-soil areas in Canada, ground that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Houses on it move, seasonally and over decades. A window opening in a Wolseley, Elmwood or St. Boniface home is frequently no longer square, and a unit measured off the old frame will bind, or leave a wedge-shaped gap that gets stuffed with insulation and hidden behind trim.
Norden Seal measures the rough opening in three places and checks it for square before ordering. Where an opening has racked significantly, full-frame replacement with a re-shimmed install is the right answer, and it costs more than a retrofit. Any quote given over the phone in this city is a guess.

Norden Seal's Winnipeg range runs from $257 for a small basic unit to $6,500 and up for large custom assemblies, with installation labour at $200 to $500 per opening. Most standard openings in an average Winnipeg home come in between $500 and $1,000 installed. Full-frame replacement costs more than a retrofit, and bay or bow assemblies sit well above the standard band.
Efficiency Manitoba pays $100 per ENERGY STAR certified triple-pane window or door, up to $2,000 per household, provided you apply within 90 days of installation and payment. Manitoba Hydro's Home Energy Efficiency Loan finances up to $7,500 of windows and doors at 6.20% over five years on your hydro bill. The two can be combined. The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan is closed to new applicants.
For practical purposes, yes. Winnipeg has 113 days a year when the temperature never rises above freezing, more than any other major Canadian city. At minus 35 degrees Celsius a double-pane unit's interior glass gets cold enough that normal indoor humidity condenses and freezes on it, which is the frost most Winnipeg homeowners see on their sills. Triple glazing with two low-E coatings and a warm-edge spacer raises the interior surface temperature above that threshold. Triple pane is also the minimum specification for the Efficiency Manitoba rebate.
Yes, and Norden Seal does it regularly. Crews open one wall at a time, so the house is never exposed for long, and cold-weather sealants and foams are used below freezing. Winter installs also avoid the spring and summer backlog. Extremely cold days may shift a schedule for crew safety.
A quality triple-pane uPVC window installed correctly should give 25 years or more here, which is why the warranty runs 25 years non-prorated. What shortens that lifespan in Winnipeg is almost always the sealed unit edge or a poor install into a shifted opening, not the frame material. Cheap aluminum-spacer units in this climate often fog inside 10 to 15 years.
Straight like-for-like replacement in an existing opening generally does not need a permit. Enlarging an opening, cutting a new one, or adding a basement egress window does, because it affects structure and life safety. Norden Seal handles permit applications where required. Confirm your specific case with the City of Winnipeg.
The Norden Seal Difference
Know Exactly
What You Are Buying.
New windows and doors are a decision you live with for decades, so it is worth settling three things before you sign with anyone: what protects your investment, who will actually carry out the work, and why Norden Seal is the right fit. Here is where we stand on all three.
Strong Warranty &
Continued Support
White PVC frames and sashes, sealed units and hardware are covered for 25 years. Coloured PVC windows are covered for 15 years.
The coverage is non-prorated, so year twenty is protected on the same terms as year one, and it transfers to the next owner when the stated registration and transfer conditions are met. If something needs attention later, submit a service request and our team reviews it directly. See the full warranty for exclusions and labour terms.
