A modern entry door is defined by what it leaves out: no raised panels, no ornament, no applied mouldings. What remains is proportion, a flush or lightly grooved face, and glass placed deliberately rather than decoratively. The Avenue Series is built around unique glass inserts wrapped in stainless steel frames. The steel surround is the design element: a hard, bright edge against the door face that reads sharply from the street. Choose Avenue when you want the glass to be the feature and the slab to be the backdrop.
The Architect Series takes a more architectural approach, with glazing and grooving arranged as a composition across the slab rather than as a single insert. The AR models are the ones most often specified on contemporary new builds.
The Diagano Series is designed around diagonal and asymmetric geometry. This is the series to look at when a straight vertical line would be too conventional for the elevation.
Modern doors call for a different glass logic than traditional ones. Where a Classic door takes a cathedral or leaded pattern, a modern door usually wants either fully clear glass in a narrow vertical lite, or a contemporary pattern with straight-line geometry. Prism, Zen, Linea, Distance and Echo from our door glass collection all work at this scale. The practical question is privacy: a narrow full-height lite floods a hallway with daylight but also gives a clear view in, so if the door opens directly onto a living space, specify a semi-private contemporary pattern or an integrated mini-blind insert rather than clear glass.
Hardware should follow the geometry. Long vertical pull handles and square D-handles suit these doors far better than a traditional lever set, because the handle is a visual line on a door defined by lines. Matte black is the current default, while brushed chrome and satin nickel read cooler and more architectural. Multi-point locking is available across the range and should be specified on any door with a large glazed area. Modern doors are sometimes treated as a design purchase where performance is assumed away, and it should not be: our certified doors meet ENERGY STAR® efficiency standards, carry NFRC ratings for U-factor and SHGC, and comply with CSA A440 structural codes, the modern collection among them.
